About Central Record Keeping (CRA)
Central Recordkeeping Agency (CRA) is a key intermediary in the National Pension System (NPS) architecture, registered with the PFRDA under Section 27 of the PFRDA Act, 2013 to perform the functions of centralized recordkeeping, accounting, administration, and customer service for subscribers under pension schemes regulated by the PFRDA and acts as operational interface for all the intermediaries under NPS architecture.
CRAs are governed by the PFRDA (Central Recordkeeping Agency) Regulations, 2015, which broadly specify eligibility criteria, outline responsibilities and set standards for technology architecture, governance, and operational service levels that CRAs are required to comply with.
Functions of CRA
The key functions of Central Recordkeeping Agency are as under:
- Performs recordkeeping, accounting, administrative, and customer service functions for subscribers under PFRDA-regulated pension schemes.
- Acts as the operational interface for all intermediaries within the NPS architecture.
- Issues unique Permanent Retirement Account Numbers (PRANs) to each subscriber, and provides customer support for addressing queries and resolving grievances.
- Offers online services that allow subscribers to update personal details such as mobile number, email ID, and address.
- Maintains a secure and comprehensive repository of PRAN data, recording all transactions including registrations, contributions, withdrawals.
- Provides periodic and consolidated account statements to subscribers to detailing their account transactions.
- Enables web-based access, dashboards, and Management Information Systems (MIS) for the Authority and other stakeholders.
